The DiskStation DS224+ doesn't differ too much to the outgoing DS220+, but you do get a few extras. There's beefier hardware under the hood, and the Celeron J4125 with an integrated GPU makes this NAS a powerhouse Plex media server. You also get the...
By Android Central onThe DS224+ offers solid performance alongside a robust software platform, but lacks SSD caching or 2.5GBe, two features that would push it above any competition.
By TweakTown onThe Synology DiskStation DS224+ may not have all the spec upgrades people were hoping for, but it's still a solid NAS with an excellent OS that's worth considering.
By AndroidPolice onIt is a very solid NAS release, and as long as you put it in the right context as a buyer and keep in mind that this system is a refresh of the DS220+, it still does a great job. It just lacks a lot of the scalability and upgradability of other recent Synology NAS releases and looks, at least in the hardware department, a little underwhelming against competitors in 2023. You can definitely do a lot worse, but there is also the potential to do a lot better by spending just a fraction more.
By NAS Compares onThe Synology DS224+ is a cool little NAS that does everything expected of it. The new release is $110 more than the Synology DS223j, but considering its raw performance is a lot better, the increase in cost is justified.
By StorageReview onWith a lot of overlapping features and really only a new chip powering the experience to set it apart, my conclusion to that should be straightforward. Unless you’re absolutely maxing out the specs of your existing machine, it will likely perform much the same as the newer counterpart.
By 9to5Toys onComing in three years after its predecessor, the DS224+ is nothing to write home about if anyone is considering it as an upgrade to the current DS220+. The J4125 CPU which can be found inside several x20 models, only confirms that it is a solid processor with no issues so far and offers great performance and features inside any model. If on the other hand, this would be a first purchase or as an upgrade to an older model (anything older than x18), then the performance jump will be noticeable.
